Technology workshop – supporting parents and carers to help their child or children use the internet safely.

“I’m not a Police Officer, and most definitely not a Tech expert. In fact, I’m a bit like you, a parent who wants to make my child’s use of the internet as safe as possible” - Jon Galling is the Senior Education Safeguarding Officer for Devon County Council and he will be delivering this workshop.

The session is designed not to scare or intimidate, but to reflect and review what the dangers of the online or virtual world are and how, as parents and carers we can help our children navigate the challenges they will face.

The session will help those attending to:

  • Understand the risks and some ways in which these can be managed
  • Understand the benefits of technology including as support for mental health and wellbeing
  • Know where to go to find practical support
  • Consider how to support your child navigate their ‘virtual world’

The session will:

  • Remind you of the risks when online or using technology
  • Empower you with some current data and research
  • Provide ideas to support you to better understand how to safeguard your child’s use of technology
  • Start a conversation for you to continue at home with you child or children and other adults including family members
  • Reflect on how you model the use of technology in a healthy way
