09:20 Keynote session one - James Risdon, Access Lead, ABRSM
James Risdon is the Access Lead at ABRSM where he is responsible for ensuring access arrangements and reasonable adjustments for ABRSM assessments and qualifications. He is also an active voice in ABRSM’s wider diversity and inclusion activity which has led to work on the Clarion, accessible publishing and much more.
James grew up in Devon, learning recorder and clarinet with two inspirational teachers, inspired by the wealth of live music in the county.
As well as sharing insights into his work with ABRSM, James will talk about how expectations, attitudes and opportunities for musicians with disabilities have changed over the past 40 years but how the fundamentals have remained constant. He never travels anywhere without a recorder or two…

At this point in the day, delegates will split into primary and secondary groups. Primary colleagues will attend a keynote and have workshop options in workshop 3 (as below). Secondary colleagues will head to a secondary only focused afternoon workshop.

13:45 Discover with Young Sounds UK - secondary colleagues afternoon workshop session (this session will run until the end of the conference - 15.20pm)
Young Sounds acclaimed Discover training covers our inclusive classroom approach and how to apply our 8 Facets of Musical Potential. Suitable for all teachers and music leaders, its available to schools, MATS, Music Hubs and other organizations working with children and young people. We have delivered this training to thousands of music leaders, teachers and trainees across the UK in schools, music hubs, universities and conservatoires.
