School effectiveness

The School Effectiveness Team is a highly skilled group of advisors with first-hand experience of school leadership, bringing a  breadth of expertise across secondary and primary phases and in current Ofsted inspection; providing professional support and challenge to schools in all aspects of school leadership and effectiveness. We understand the wide range of conflicting priorities that school leaders face and we pride ourselves on being able to offer you a bespoke and nuanced service which allows you to tailor our offer to meet your individual school needs.

The headteacher standards 2020 state that ‘headteachers are leading professionals and role models for the communities they serve. Their leadership is a significant factor in ensuring high-quality teaching and achievement in schools and a positive and enriching experience of education for pupils.’ This goes to the heart of our offer, which focuses on leadership and management and the quality of education and includes access to training, updates, and a flexible range of support and development  opportunities that will facilitate headteachers and leaders as they strive to be the best they can be.

Bespoke consultancy

Costs are based on a daily rate and the number of days purchased can be used to address any combination of the priorities below, if what you want is not on the list, just ask.

Support may include all or some of the following:

Leadership and school effectiveness

  • Provide quality assurance of the school’s self-evaluation
  • Support with school improvement planning
  • Guidance on how to identify key data trends and identification of key lines of enquiry
  • Prepare a robust evidence base against the Ofsted criteria and to support the SEF
  • Prepare for leadership interviews
  • Develop and deliver effective performance management systems
  • Provide coaching and mentoring and/or develop school systems to deliver this
  • Quality assure the effectiveness of leadership at all levels
  • Support leadership re-structure and change management

Curriculum

  • CPD for middle leaders to articulate and evidence the impact of their work on the Quality of Education
  • Support the school or groups of schools to undertake peer self-evaluation of areas of the curriculum
  • Evaluate how secure curriculum development is and which subjects may need further work
  • Evaluate the inclusiveness of the curriculum for disadvantaged pupils and other key groups
  • Support schools to be able to articulate how well the lowest 20% of pupils, including those with SEND, are accessing individual subjects and whether higher attaining pupils are deepening their learning and making progress from their starting points
  • Evaluate how well stated intent matches to implementation and impact in identified subject strengths
  • Evaluate whether expectations are sufficiently ambitious in individual subjects

Teaching assistant learning sessions

This offer provides professional development training for teaching assistants working within primary or secondary phase schools and settings. Four sessions explore four key elements that maximise the impact of teaching assistants work on learning and outcomes for pupils. Sessions can stand alone or be delivered as a CPD package.

The training addresses the following:

  • Effective questioning
  • Feedback on learning
  • Independence and scaffolding learning
  • Managing behaviour positively
