English Teaching Sequences

BookWrites: using real texts to teach writing. Each English teaching sequence includes learning activities moving from immersion in the text to practising and independent application in writing. Firing imaginations, learning new writing techniques and bringing colour into the classroom, they incorporate a range of stimulating, hands-on activities to develop all areas of English but with a focus on grammar, vocabulary and writing.

Each BookWrites teaching sequence includes:

• Planning based on a high-quality, authentic suggested text as a model of effective and exciting writing.
• A series of adaptive learning activities directly linked to National Curriculum objectives.
• Grammar and/or vocabulary activities to teach and practise skills in order to create specific effects for the purpose and audience.
• A logical sequence from reading to writing incorporating modelled teacher practice before independent application.

BookBuds

Text-based plans enabling consistency in approach for BookWrites schools all the way from YR to Y6. The plans have been written to match the EY curriculum through collaboration between our team and two of our EY/KS1 Ambassador Subject Leaders, as well as support from one of our Early Years Advisors.

Teaching sequences for writing, when used together with the Assessment of Writing resources, will help you meet all your planning and assessment needs for teaching writing at KS1 and KS2. Resources are available as an annual online subscription.
