Data protection networking forums (online)

Devon County Council's popular Data Protection Networking Forums are online events held half-termly and facilitated by our in-house data protection professional, Jenny Goodall.  They  provide a fantastic opportunity for anyone with an interest in, or responsibility for, data protection within their educational setting to get together to share ideas and tips with other data protection professionals, whilst receiving the latest updates on any changes to the legislation.

Furthermore, we include training on a different aspect of data protection law at each of our Forums, with the topics chosen by our participants, according to popularity.

Forthcoming dates and training topics are as follows:-

  • 12 December 2024 - update on the recently announced Data (use and access) Bill and tips on safeguarding your school’s personal data
  • 12 February 2025 – DPIAs
  • 26 March 2025 – Subject Access Requests

Training objectives

  • Your school is accountable when it comes to complying with the law and protecting the personal data you hold.
  • To demonstrate your commitment to the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 (data protection legislation), you are required to appoint an appropriately trained, independent, Data Protection Officer (DPO).
  • Your DPO must be confident in the application of data protection legislation in an educational setting to achieve and maintain compliance.
  • Keeping your school DPO or Data Protection link officer (if we supply your School DPO role for you) informed, up-to-date and fully trained is the responsibility of every school and our Networking Forums will help you achieve this goal whilst facilitating an opportunity for them to share ideas with other school data protection professionals
