The Dartmoor Centres hold an Adventurous Activities Licensing Agency License for adventurous activities. License number: L13864. You can view our licence details on the AALS website.

The Head of Centres is also the Outdoor Education Adviser for Devon County Council and Torbay Council and is a full member of the Outdoor Education Advisers’ National Panel.

The Dartmoor Centres place great emphasis on safety throughout its programmes by employing qualified and experienced Outdoor Education Tutors and having safe operating procedures approved by the Adventurous Activities Licensing Agency (part of the Health & Safety Executive).

However, outdoor activities can be hazardous and even though levels of risk are reduced to tolerable levels, participants must accept that accepting personal responsibility for risk management in real situations is an inherent part of the educational ethos of the centre.

The Dartmoor Centres do not ask children or their parents/guardians to complete activity consent forms. Our contract is with the school, which holds a duty of care (in loco parentis) for children on the school roll.

In accordance with the Local Authority Policy, schools visiting The Dartmoor Centres should gain appropriate informed consent from parents/guardians. The Dartmoor Centres do not need to see copies of these consent forms.

Whilst The Dartmoor Centres are not acting in loco parentis we do have a duty of care for all of our customers, children and adults alike and therefore we request summary information about group members medical and dietary needs in order that we can plan ahead and best meet their needs. This information is only used for the agreed purpose in line with the Devon County Council Privacy Policy.
