How I came to be working at The Dartmoor Centres

My 'First Aid in the Outdoors' update course at Pixies Holt happened to coincide with deciding to leave Primary Headship after 20 years, to focus on my interests in outdoor learning and inclusion. Having led many walks, activities and residentials on Dartmoor during my time in school, and since, an offer to work with the Dartmoor Centres seemed like a good fit!

My favourite thing about Dartmoor

Three places on Dartmoor that are particularly special to me are the Tavy Cleave, where we spent a lot of time walking and swimming in my younger days; the area between Haytor and Hound Tor, where I have walked and played many times with school groups, family and friends without ever tiring of it; and the Dart Valley from Newbridge on up, is beautiful at anytime of year and my solo walk (and swim) of choice.

What makes me happy

With our family now extending to a young grandchild and the music and singing that also play a big part in my life, there are plenty of reasons to be cheerful. Add to those the real pleasure that I get from helping children to relax and enjoy being in wild places and my own occasional long or overnight walks on the moor, then the pressures of leading a school seems a distant memory.
