Carnegie medal for illustration event 2024

Carnegie Illustration Celebration Event

  • Wednesday 19 June 2024, Pathfield School, Barnstaple

The Carnegie medal for illustration is awarded for books that give an outstanding reading experience through illustration and this year’s shadowing groups had a treat with 8 wonderful and very different picture books. The participating schools showed their own amazing artwork, performed songs, dance routines and shared their own journeys of discovery all inspired by this year’s shortlisted books. Their overall favourite was The Bowerbird written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Catherine Rayner. The official winner was author/illustrator Aaron Becker with his wordless book, The Tree and the River.

Feedback

‘I attended the Carnegie Medal for Illustration Celebration Event today and just wanted to say thank you for putting on such an event. To see such a diversity of schools presenting and socialising together was wonderful and truly supports the ‘levelling up’ that is so much needed within our education system. I was supporting Caen as a parent but am the former HT at West Croft School in Bideford and my passion is ensuring that all children regardless of background or starting points have the same opportunities and events such as this beautifully demonstrate that desire’ Parent, Caen

‘A wonderful inclusive event showcasing the creative responses of our young people. Such excitement when the voting selected their favourite book!’  Great Torrington School
