This webinar will develop the skills of school staff in mainstream primary schools to support children with more complex needs in Key Stage 1 to be well included at school, with a focus on using visual support.
This is the second session in our training series, aimed at enhancing the knowledge, understanding and strategies used by mainstream staff. It will be delivered by Dr Carrie Gould (Specialist Senior Educational Psychologist (Cognition and Learning)) and Lucy Bomford
(Specialist Speech and Language Therapist – Language and DLD, Communication and
Interaction Team).
This session stems from the evaluation of the Early Years Transition Project. The first small cohort of children in Devon were supported through the Early Years Transition Project during reception from 2023 to 2024. The project was led by the Early Years Advisory Team at Devon County Council. It aimed to explore the impact of enhanced transition support in reception and develop inclusive practice through reception to year 1.
Feedback from staff who attended a supporting inclusive practice webinar in December 2024 suggested that developing knowledge and understanding of inclusion and what this means for staff who are supporting learners with more complex needs is an area which staff would like to explore.
