09:30  Making an education system where everyone can find a place to belong - Dr Cora Sargeant, Chartered Educational Psychologist and host of the podcast and video series Classroom Psychology

Our education system is one built around the individual success of both children and young people, and of us as educators. Ofsted and league tables invite us to even consider our own teaching as an individual pursuit, our own schools as fundamentally competitive with other institutions. Yet connection with one another is where Humans flourish.

In this session we’re going to look at the science of thriving and we’re going to find that there are many lessons the literature can teach about how we can flourish, and how we can encourage children and young people to do the same. How do we make a world where everyone can find a place to belong?

Together.

11:15  Model the Challenge: Tackling Misogyny & Gender-Based Violence in Schools - Natasha Eeles, CEO, Bold Voices

In this session we will define misogyny, gender inequality and gender-based violence and understand how young people are experiencing it through statistics and testimonies. We will contextualise these experiences within the concept of a 'culture of gender-based violence' using the visual tool of the 'continuum' and the understanding that language, norms, stereotypes, actions and beliefs can create a specific culture that leads to sexual harassment and violence. Finally, attendees will be introduced to the 'call in, call out' method of challenge and situate this within the need to instil a culture of challenge across the whole school community.

Moving beyond “body image lessons”, it offers practical, whole-school approaches that foster belonging, wellbeing and dignity so every child can celebrate, respect and accept ALL bodies - especially their own.
