Public Health is a discipline that addresses health at the population level. The work of Public Health Devon includes 3 core areas;
Health Protection, Health Promotion and Prevention.
We use surveillance to Control infectious diseases, identify risks and promote healthy workplaces and educational settings.
We improve the Health and Wellbeing of the population by improving the social determinants of health and reducing inequalities in social, educational and health outcomes.
Vaccination, screening, personal, social health education (PSHE) and psycho-education.
Our aim is to use information, data and evidence to identify needs through surveillance and research. We identify risk factors, exposure and diseases and assess distribution and magnitude.
We aim to understand causal relationships between exposure, risks and outcomes.
We plan interventions that we know will work and will impact on Public Health at a population level.
We act to prevent disease and disability by promoting behaviour change and reducing exposure to risk (e.g. radiation, toxic hazards, wider determinants, poverty, human rights and discrimination, violence)
We work in partnership with other services and organisations including the Voluntary Community Enterprise Sector (VCSE).

Family Minds Partnership is a group of organisations who are working alongside each other to better improve mental health support for Children, Young People and their Families across Devon.

The educational psychology service is delivered by Devon County Council (DCC) to support schools and settings across Devon.
Work funded by DCC
A finite amount of educational psychology time is funded by DCC for special educational needs statutory work and other tasks to support improved outcomes for children where DCC has duties for their care.
Traded services
Schools and settings have the option to purchase educational psychology support in blocks of time to meet their own specific needs and priorities. We offer a range of work to promote inclusion, achievement and psychological wellbeing across the full range of ages and abilities. All our EPs work creatively to make the most of your educational psychology time, meeting the needs of individual schools and working flexibly across MATs.

Our aim is to do all we can to ensure all children in care to Devon enjoy their education, have access to the highest quality education provision and gain their best possible outcomes.
Although we are not a real school with buildings and classrooms, the Virtual School works as any school to provide support and interventions to help each child achieve their best and thrive on their educational journey.
We work with our young people, designated teachers in schools, social workers, carers, families and other professionals to ensure high aspirations and targeted support is the shared goal of everyone involved with the young person.
Education of children in care – Devon Virtual School – Education and Families
We are a dedicated, multi-ethnic and multilingual team, with over 20 years' experience of working closely with Devon schools to remove barriers and inequalities in attainment and achievement. By working alongside you, we can help your school to improve educational outcomes for children and young people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic and Traveller heritages, as well as those learning English as an additional language (EAL). We provide expert advice, guidance and training to help raise attainment and close the performance gap for these children and young people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic and Traveller groups. Our approach is flexible and responsive, giving you the right level of support when you need it.
Ethnic minority and Traveller achievement service (EMTAS) | DES
The Devon Schools Wellbeing Partnership is a universal health and wellbeing resource for all schools in Devon. Hosted by Devon County Council’s Public Health team, it aims to support schools in creating an environment where pupils, staff, and the wider school community can thrive through taking a holistic whole school approach.
Early Help is the extra support your family can get if you need it. It may be that you want to prevent a problem, or change things for your family before the problem becomes more serious.
It is not a specific service or team, it’s an approach that brings together people from a range of services and teams who will work together with your whole family to help improve the situation for everyone.
It can offer support to families from pre-birth to adolescents with all sorts of issues from parenting, employment and school attendance to emotional wellbeing or anti-social behaviour.

Active Devon is a community-focused, non-profit organisation dedicated to improving lives through movement. We collaborate with schools, system partners, and communities to create positive physical activity experiences that support mental health and wellbeing for children and young people. By embedding physical activity in childhood, we help develop the confidence, competence, and coping strategies needed to thrive.
As part of our strategy, Devon Moving Together, we champion movement as a tool to address the growing mental health challenges in children, equipping them to lead active, healthy lives.
