Five years ago we reported on our research project which explored supporting learners to be active and influential participants in mathematics lessons through the use of pre-teaching and assigning competence. Since then, pre-teaching has been referenced in national resources by NCETM but without any detail as to what is needed in order to make it effective and the relevance of assigning competence. This programme will explore the principles and essential components and participants will work collaboratively to design pre-teaching sessions which they will lead in-school between meetings.
