New to role - SENCo training

This event is for SENCos who are new to role. It aims to develop an understanding of both the strategic and operational aspects of this unique role in school.

This event will be useful for SENCos who have yet to register for the SEND National Professional Qualification. It will also complement training for those who are undertaking it already.

(This training does not replace the mandatory qualification.)

Training objectives

  • Develop an understanding of the strategic and operational aspects of the SENCo role and what these look like in practice
  • Manage your time and workload effectively 
  • Fully understand the legal duties placed on schools relating to SEND and what that looks like in policy and practice
  • Understand what a Graduated Response is and what this looks like in practice
  • Understand the Devon context and raise awareness of local systems, processes and key services
  • Feel equipped with knowledge, understanding, tools and resources to carry out the role effectively
  • Work collaboratively with pupils, parents, carers and staff to improve outcomes for children and young people
  • Build supportive network with others in similar roles
