Each year, the Devon School Library Service holds two secondary events for the Carnegie Medal for Writing with a guest author and hosted by different schools across Devon. There is one primary event celebrating the Carnegie Medal for Illustration hosted by Pathfield Special School in Barnstaple.

Schools from across Devon attend with their Carnegie shadowing groups creating an inspiring and enjoyable morning for all involved.

What a joyful celebration! I thought the level of presentations was absolutely outstanding! The poems, artwork, thoughtfulness that went into the whole process, culminating in the confident presentations by the students was extraordinary. I was also aware of the strong themes running through all the presentations of connection, community and care which very much reflected the Devon School Library Service’s opening statements about empathy. All the students represented their schools so well and deserve lots of praise. It was lovely to speak with some of them. Not only were they enjoying the work of the other students’ but also had fun with the experience itself. Can’t wait to see what next year holds for us!
