Devon County Council is pleased to confirm further funding through the DfE Wraparound Childcare Programme to help schools, academies, childcare providers, and childminders create, wraparound childcare for primary-aged children.
What funding is available?
- Creation, extension or expansion funding to support new provision, extend operating hours, additional days, or extra places where there is evidence of demand.
- Start-up grants of up to £1,500 to help with initial costs such as resources, registration, insurance, recruitment, etc.
- Sustainability and SEND inclusion grants of up to £5,000 where there is clear evidence of short-term sustainability pressure or a need to strengthen inclusive practice.
- Transport grants of up to £5,000 where a provider is creating provision and can help children from a neighbouring school access after-school childcare on a different school site.
Who can apply?
Applications are welcomed from any primary school or childcare provider. New providers may also apply where they can demonstrate relevant experience.
Provision must be for children in Reception to Year 6 and show local demand,
Important points to note
- Funding is time-limited and applicants must show how provision will become sustainable once grant funding ends.
- Funding cannot be used for parent fee subsidies, holiday provision, capital works, costs already incurred or childcare outside the primary age range.
- Applications must include clear evidence of need, such as parent consultation, attendance data, waiting lists, financial forecasts, or local sufficiency information.
- Monitoring information will be required as a condition of funding.

Applications must be submitted by 28 February 2027, and funded activity must be operational by April 2027.
