Inspiring practice and strengthening relationships
More than 215 early years professionals from across Devon came together at Sandy Park, Exeter on 8 October for the Devon Early Years Foundation Stage Conference 2026, a vibrant and inspiring day celebrating the power of connection.
Practitioners, leaders and educators from a wide range of early years settings were joined by 20 exhibitors, two keynote speakers and five workshop hosts, all united by a shared commitment to helping young children thrive.

The power of connection
Throughout the day, keynote speakers encouraged delegates to reflect on the vital role that relationships, connection and belonging play in early childhood, and the difference meaningful connections can make to children’s development, wellbeing and future outcomes.
These powerful messages were brought to life through a programme of interactive workshops, giving practitioners practical ideas, inspiration and strategies to take back to their own settings.
The atmosphere throughout the conference reflected the theme perfectly. Delegates reconnected with familiar colleagues, made new connections, shared experiences and exchanged ideas, while celebrating the fantastic work taking place across Devon’s early years community.
From singing and movement to discussion and reflection, the day was filled with energy, collaboration and joy.
Delegates also had the opportunity to meet exhibitors and partner organisations, finding out more about the resources, services and support available to enhance practice in their settings.
Putting children at the heart of what we do
Reflecting on the day, Tamsin Robertson, Team Lead – Quality & Inclusion (Early Years) – Exeter & East, and Katie Johnson, Service Lead – Early Years – Exeter & East, said:
“It was a truly inspiring day that left many of us reflecting on the privilege of working with young children and their families. The conference reminded us of the joy that sits at the heart of early years practice and the incredible opportunity we have to make a difference during some of the most important years of a child’s life.”
They added that the keynote speakers’ focus on relationships, connection and belonging provided a timely reminder that, amid change and competing demands, some of the simplest things can have the greatest impact: listening, noticing, connecting and caring.
It is a message we hope will stay with everyone who attended as Devon’s early years community continues to put children at the heart of everything it does.
Thank you, and see you in 2027!
A huge thank you to our keynote speakers, workshop facilitators, exhibitors and, of course, everyone who joined us. Your enthusiasm, openness and commitment to improving outcomes for children helped make the conference such a memorable day.
And the conversation doesn’t end here. We look forward to building on the ideas, inspiration and connections made throughout the day.
