Early Years and Childcare: Safeguarding and child protection enhanced (DSL/DDSL) training (online or in person) (group 3 refresher)

This Enhanced training is for people with designated child protection responsibilities in group-based settings and childminders. Other practitioners should attend the Safeguarding and Child Protection core (all early years and childcare practitioners).

The training will comprise of a 4.5 hour session delivered either virtually or face to face.

Important Information - This is an interactive course, and certification depends on your engagement. 

If you are attending a course that is being delivered virtually by Microsoft Teams, please ensure that you join the session by using a tablet, laptop or desktop device and not a mobile phone; mobile phones are not compatible with some of the content and the delivery methods and therefore you may not be certificated.

 

In order to complete this Enhanced course, delegates must also have completed the following within the last 6 months:

Training objectives

  • To have an increased confidence in fulfilling the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) in your early years or childcare setting:
  • Provide updates on key changes to legislation, statutory and non-statutory documentation, and what it means in practice
  • Expand on knowledge gained in the ‘Core Safeguarding and Child Protection’ course around vulnerabilities, concerns and wider safeguarding concerns, and the impact these may have on children and young people
  • Review and unpick the different elements that make up the role of the DSL/DDSL, including supporting staff, assistants, students, apprentices and volunteers to fulfil their role
  • Be informed about the current processes for reporting concerns and further planned changes in Devon.
