Carnegie celebration event

The School Library Service would like to invite you to bring a Carnegie shadowing group of up to10 pupils to come and share a 5 to 10 minute presentation of a book from the 2024 Yoto Carnegie shortlist. The event will start with a short talk by our guest author, Candy Gourlay, followed by the presentations. Candy will then give some feedback to each group and the schools will have an opportunity to vote for their favourite presentation. There will be refreshments provided and an opportunity for pupils to purchase signed books by the author as well as other shortlisted titles.

Learning objectives:

  • A wonderful opportunity to meet other shadowing groups and see what we have all enjoyed from this year’s Carnegie shortlist.
  • Meet the author Candy Gourlay who considers it her mission ‘to share her Philippine heritage to young readers across the world’. Her teen novel Bone Talk was shortlisted for the Carnegie medal in 2019 and her latest, Wild Song, is a powerful and immersive story of battling inequality, self-belief and adventure.

Shadowing groups from across Devon and surrounding secondary schools welcome.

Locations:

  • Wednesday 12 June, at The Spires College, Torquay
  • Thursday 13 June, at Queen Elizabeth School, Crediton

Each event will run from approximately 9.15 to 12.45. Please select ONE option from the choice below.

A deposit of £25 will secure your school's place and the remaining balance will be invoiced after the event. The remaining balance depends on the number of schools attending (the more schools attending, the less each school has to pay) and we estimate this to be between £10 - £50 per school.
