Maths intervention programme: spot on with number

This programme is open to all schools but if you are a Devon maintained school you can book one or more places at the subsidised rate of £30 per person.

Cost to all other schools is £190 per person.

The Spot On With Numbers Intervention Programme is a programme designed to:

• Raise the attainment of children in KS1 who have moderate difficulties in mathematics by accelerating their progress to catch up with their peers.
• Raise the attainment of older pupils who have specific difficulties in mathematics including dyscalculia.
• Create positive attitudes to mathematics and achieve the confidence and mathematical understanding needed to continue to learn successfully after the intervention.

The Intervention Programme comprises up to 36 sessions of approximately 45 minutes each. It is designed to be delivered up to three times a week, either one-to-one or in small groups of up to four children. 

The sessions are organised into six topics that focus on key aspects of number, drawing on research into the mathematics that causes the most difficulties for pupils:

1. Numbers 0 - 5
2. Numbers 6 - 10
3. Exploring 10
4. Place Value to 20
5. Additive Reasoning
6. Multiplicative Reasoning

This programme includes 2 in-person sessions which will take place at Westbank Community Health and Care in Exminster plus an optional online follow-up session.

Please note that schools and participators must be able to commit to the full programme.  All dates are identified before the start of the programme and we ask that these are protected and any issues communicated before the first session. If a participant does not turn up for a session it will be assumed that they have withdrawn from the programme, unless there has been advance notification.   Participants should also be supported by their school leadership to explore outcomes from the project with other colleagues in their school.
