Delegates will learn about the development and role of narrative within language as a whole, and its importance in supporting CYP’s understanding of themselves and others. 

We will look at different types of narrative and consider ways to assess the oral narrative skills of children and young people. 

Training objectives

  • Understanding of the varied language skills required to produce a good narrative and how oral narrative skills impact on written narrative
  • Awareness of how and why to assess oral narrative skills
  • Supporting the development of narrative skills at the universal level and as a targeted intervention
  • Develop your knowledge of strategies and interventions to help pupils to develop this vital area of their language skills
