Early Years and Childcare: Paediatric First Aid

This course comprises of:

  • 6 hours independent study (eLearning - parts 1,2 and 3)
  • 6 hours skills assessment (in person; small groups of 10-12 maximum)

You will be issued with a first aid manual upon attending the taught session. You will be issued a paper copy certificate upon completion at the end of the skills day. Please keep the certificate safe as we do not hold copies on the training system.

Training objectives

  • Skill 1 - scene assessment
  • Skill 2 - Primary Assessment and recovery, responsive and breathing normally, unresponsive and breathing normally, unresponsive and not breathing normally, having a seizure.
  • Skill 3 and 4 – child CPR and infant CPR plus the use of an AED
  • Skill 5 – serious bleeding
  • Skill 6 - shock management
  • Skill 7 – spinal injury
  • Skill 8 and 9 – conscious choking child and infant
  • Skill 11 - bandaging 
  • Skill 10 and 12 – illness and injury assessment
  • Final scenario assessment

This 12 hour course is consistent with the criteria set out in Annex A of the EYFS 2024, however; to gain certification, delegates must competently demonstrate all of the above skills on the day.
