To comply with health and safety at work legislation, visit leaders must be ‘competent’ to carry out their duties. To that end visit leaders should be trained either by the school’s own Educational Visits Coordinator or by the adviser for Outdoor Education. The adviser can come to your school and train the head, SLT, EVC and visit leaders in the proper planning and risk management of educational visits through a 1.5 hour school INSET session.
